1. What is the difference between a psychologist and psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who are able to prescribe medications and generally do less talk therapy than psychologists. I am a psychologist with a Masters degree in Psychology (Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand) who specialises in Transpersonal psychology. Psychologists are not medical doctors and do not prescribe medications.
2. Are you licensed in Switzerland?
As a foreigner in Switzerland with qualifications from overseas, I am looking into the process of registering with the Föderation der Schweizer Psychologinnen und Psychologen (FSP) and the Verbandes der Psychologinnen und Psychologen beider Basel (PPB).
3. What do you call your therapy?
My process focuses on helping you identify and learn more constructive ways to deal with the challenges or issues in your life. This supportive process assists when you are going through a difficult period or under increased stress, such as transitioning to a new career, living in a new city or having relationship difficulties. It is also beneficial for those confronting a life, relationship, work issue or a specific mental health problem that can interfere with their daily functioning for more than a few days. I do not use a 'cookie-cutter' approach because I recognise that one way does not fit all. Instead I draw upon my deep understanding of the mind-body connection and the various disciplines I am trained in so that together we find the best approach for you.
4. Do I need a referral?
It is not necessary to have a referral, and many people simply choose to see me because my work speaks to them or because they were recommended by a friend.
5. How often and for how long will I need to see you?
This all depends on you. You may wish a single session to gain clarity on a particular issue or benefit from regular sessions. You may start with TALK and then consider yoga, breath &/or energy therapies to support and integrate the process and give new experiences.
6. How do I make an appointment
If you haven't used the booking form on the previous page you can call me for an appointment (076 389 3264) or email.
7. What happens after I book an appointment?
A single session is 60 minutes and is typically held at my praxis to provide a warm & relaxed atmosphere. For subsequent appointments I offer the flexibility of meeting in my praxis, in a social location or over skype to accommodate your work and travel schedule.
8. Are the sessions confidential? Yes! Your identity and the details of our conversations are held in strictest confidence according to a Code of Conduct and Ethics outlined for psychologists.
9. Will my insurance company cover your fees?
I'm working on it! However, I recommend that you check directly with your health insurance company because in Switzerland, some psychological interventions are not covered by basic health insurance.
10. Do I pay for sessions I miss?
If appointments are changed or cancelled more than 24 hours in advance, no charges will be made. If the appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice the full fee must be paid.
