My Yoga Traditions
HATHA YOGA
Hatha is a systematic yoga practice that incorporates asana (postures), pranayama (breath) & relaxation with the goal of building vitality, strength, flexibility, and a focused & quiet mind.
YIN YOGA
"The practice must be steady, continuous, stretch over a period of time and be undertaken in faith of its regenerating powers" - Patanjali
Yin is a beautiful practice that every body benefits from. This challenging & meditative yoga practice will transform your more muscular 'yang' styles of yoga/activity, and give you the balance we so often seek in our active & busy lives. We benefit from learning to relax, be patient, quiet and release the tightest areas of the body that over time lead to limited range of motion and impaired joint & skeletal health. Yin postures target the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine to encourage energy flow & release.
For further information about Yin yoga enjoy my feature Yin Yoga: An Antidote for Modern Living published in Asia Spa magazine.
The evening candlelight class is the perfect way to end a busy day for many reasons:
KUNDALINI YOGA
The powerful practice of Kundalini Yoga is quite different in form from the classical Hatha styles of yoga that many people are familiar with. In the tradition of Yogi Bhajan, each kriya has a specific purpose (eg. to detoxify, release fear, fire up the metabolism, etc) & incorporates body postures, breath, meditation, mantra (sound) and mudra (hand positions) so that the endocrine, nervous and subtle energetic systems of the body are harmonised and cleaned. The kundalini energy is roused and the practitioners is awakened to a large source of energy & full creative potential.
For further information about Kundalini yoga check out my feature Kundalini: Yoga of Truth published in Asia Spa magazine.
AYURVEDIC YOGA
Meaning 'life knowledge', Ayurveda is an ancient Indian science of well-being that when applied to our yoga asana practice, meditation and life can have powerful influence on our born constitution (prakruti) to ensure we stay healthy and balanced in mind, body & spirit. YOGA NIDRA
Your yoga practice provides deep restoration to your body and mind and the practice of Yoga Nidra is a particularly effective way to conserve and consolidate the energy from the yoga asana practices. It also teaches us to relax the entire muscular and nervous system by drawing awareness to different parts of the body with conscious attention. Yoga Nidra seems simple but is an extremely efficient method for those with insomnia, experiencing transitions and stress, going through a disease process with various types of symptoms & undoubtedly we all benefit from bringing more conscious relaxation to our lives. This practice is DELICIOUS!
SHAKTI MEDITATION
A guided meditation that awakens you to the wonder, wisdom, love and transformative power of the Goddesses through full engagement of your senses, imagination, breath, energy flow and attention. Ideal for those who like the idea of meditation but feel they can't sit silently and enter the meditative space.
PRENATAL and POSTNATAL YOGA
For the Mother-to-Be: Pregnancy is an extremely powerful time of heightened sensitivity & growth and yoga offers wonderful support during this time. Enjoy your pregnancy by learning to use your breath; strengthen, nourish & trust your body; and cultivate a calm mind.
For the new Mother: yoga and breathwork to help your body, hormones and adjustment to motherhood is truly a gift to yourself and your family.
